The Single Use Carrier Bags Charges (England) Order 2015

The Single Use Carrier Bags Charges (England) Order 2015 has been recently updated and is due to be implemented in October this year.

This legislation means that a seller must charge a minimum of 5 pence (including any VAT) for each ‘single use carrier bag’ (SUCB). An SUCB means an unused bag made of lightweight plastic material with handles, other than an excluded bag.

There are a number of excluded bags, as follows:

  • Unwrapped food bag
  • Unwrapped loose seeds bag
  • Unwrapped blades bag
  • Prescription-only medicine bag
  • Uncooked meat food bag
  • Live aquatic creatures bag
  • Returnable multiple reuse bag
  • Woven plastic bag
  • Transit goods bag
